Hello, I’m Carol Gledhill, a compassionate person-centred counsellor dedicated to supporting both neurodivergent and neurotypical people. I have come to this profession late in life at the age of 57 having had experience of anxiety and depression, childhood trauma and domestic abuse. I have developed a deep interest in mental health and wellbeing and have completed my diploma in therapeutic counselling with the ambition to give something back by helping other people. It’s the most rewarding and fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. I’ve been on a journey and it’s my ambition to help you enjoy yours.

As a person-centred counsellor, I place you at the heart of our work together. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk with you, offering empathy, compassion, and a judgment-free space. We will work collaboratively to explore the challenges you are facing and develop strategies to move forward in a way that feels aligned with your values and goals.
In my practice, I specialise in supporting individuals navigating late diagnoses of neurodivergence or those exploring the possibility of being neurodivergent. I have a particular passion for helping those on their journey of unmasking and embracing their true selves. I recognise how complex these experiences can be, especially for those who feel they’ve spent years adapting to societal expectations, and I am here to walk alongside you as you reclaim your authenticity. There can also be an overwhelming feeling of grief for what might have been and this can take some time to work through and unpack these feelings in order to move forward.
• Late-Diagnosed Neurodivergent: If you’ve recently discovered you are neurodivergent, I offer help and support in navigating this new chapter of self-awareness and understanding.
• Exploring Neurodivergence: If you are questioning whether you might be neurodivergent, I will help you explore your experiences and determine if pursuing a formal diagnosis is right for you.
• Unmasking and Embracing Authenticity: Unmasking is a liberating yet challenging journey. I provide a nurturing environment to help you reconnect with your true self and develop strategies to navigate life authentically.
• Experiencing Menopause and Neurodivergence: For some women, menopause brings confusion and uncertainty about who they really are. I am passionate about supporting you through this intersection of hormonal changes and neurodivergent traits, especially as these traits may be exacerbated during this phase of life and you may feel unable to mask them anymore.
• On Long Waiting Lists for Neurodivergence Diagnosis: I offer support during this uncertain time, helping you cope with the wait and providing ongoing emotional care.
In addition to my work with neurodivergence, I offer trauma-informed counselling and am a certified mental health first aider and suicide first aider. I am especially attuned to working with women who have experienced childhood trauma, domestic abuse, and workplace challenges. These experiences often intertwine with neurodivergent traits, and I strive to create a space where you can reflect, heal, and understand your emotions without judgment.
I specialise in supporting individuals who are experiencing CPTSD, PTSD, OCD, domestic abuse, separation and divorce, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, rejection sensitivity disorder, menopause, work-related issues and attachment disorders.
Another key interest of mine is menopause. With over 20 years of experience in employment law, I recently immersed myself in a research project on 'Menopause in the Workplace'. The growing call for greater awareness and support in the workplace is inspiring, and I am keen to help women navigate the challenges of menopause. These changes can profoundly impact their self-esteem, confidence, and performance. Women aged 45 to 55 form 18% of the British workforce, and this demographic is steadily increasing. My research explored the specific challenges women face and how to alleviate the effects of brain fog, hot flushes, and other symptoms. Shockingly, it is estimated that 1 in 4 women have left their careers due to the effects of menopause, leading to a loss of skilled workers that could be prevented with the right support. I offer that support through my person-centred counselling approach, incorporating CBT exercises that have proved to be effective in managing these symptoms.
My practice is informed by both lived experience and professional expertise. As someone who has navigated life as a neurodivergent individual, I bring a unique perspective that allows me to deeply empathise with my clients. This lived experience, combined with my trauma-informed, person-centred approach, helps me connect authentically with those I support.
I offer in person counselling and therapy sessions from my practice based at 19 Bridge Street, Morley, LS27 0ER. This is easily accessible from all areas surrounding Leeds, Wakefield and West Yorkshire.
